Global modular building specialist, Volumetric Building Companies, has expanded its UK management team with the appointment of Tim Uttley as Commercial Director for the UK and Special Markets.
Tim has worked for leading modular building specialists in both senior project management and commercial roles over the last 22 years. A graduate in interior design and architecture, he has worked on high-profile modular projects in his career, which have included a £53m contract to deliver worker accommodation at Hinkley Point, a package of prison projects worth £35m, and multiple schemes in the social housing, education and hospitality sectors.
Commenting on his new role, Tim said, “The major modular manufacturers in the UK all have a very similar offer in terms of product and service. VBC is well established in the US and is doing some really interesting and innovative work internationally. This really appealed at this stage in my career.”
“VBC is a technology-led business with highly automated factories and genuinely lean manufacturing. Their processes are fully integrated – from extensive design resources to modular production, project management, furniture manufacture, and fitout. It delivers a complete end-to-end service and with a very unique global perspective.”
“When you add the scale of VBC’s operations on different continents, its strong brand identity, and robust financial stability and backing, it has a really compelling offer to developers, construction clients and other partners in both public and private sectors.”
David Fetzer, Chief Commercial Officer at Volumetric Building Companies, said, “We are delighted to welcome Tim to VBC and to be expanding our leadership team and commitment to the UK. He has fantastic experience across our target sectors where we can offer some very significant benefits to construction clients – from developers of student accommodation and affordable housing, to defence, custodial, and hotels.
“VBC has the resources and proven expertise in the industrialisation of construction. I am in no doubt that Tim will help us to secure a strong order pipeline in the UK and beyond. I am pleased to report that we are already in advanced discussions on some really exciting opportunities and collaborations.”
VBC uses a Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) approach and data intelligence to maximise the efficiency of its modular solutions. It has dominated the hotel and affordable housing spaces in other countries with its innovative timber volumetric and steel-framed systems. It also manufactures ‘components’ inhouse – such as fitted furniture for kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms, giving security of supply from design to manufacture, installation and handover.
